The sap dripping!

2013_03_24_0899

Roadside trees tapped!

When the sap is running, we are running as well! All the lines are checked for leaks and we make sure there are no trees or branches on the lines. Basically we are out in the woods making sure things are running smoothly. You can end up walking several miles in a days time when it’s happening. Depending on how deep the snow is, depends on whether we need snowshoes or not.

As J.P. says,” if you miss a drop of sap you will not get that back!”

Last October at Justamere was a very exciting time for us.  Our excellent feature in the Martha Stewart Living Magazine was released, including beautiful pictures of our farm, lifestyle, and broom craftsmanship. If you didn’t get a chance to take a look at the article, now’s the time!  Take a look at the inner workings of Justamere’s broomshop and read the article by clicking on the thumbnail below!

Jumping the broom

Throughout this past summer we have been selling a few brooms for wedding ceremonies. “Jumping
the broom” is an African American custom as well as a neo pagan custom.
“Jumping the broom” is a symbol of sweeping away the old and welcoming
the new, or a symbol of new beginnings. Here is a photo of our
traditional broom being used as …part of this special wedding ceremony! We wish the happy couple the best in life. I found this saying  and wanted to share it.

As sure as come your wedding day

a broom to you I” send, In

sunshine, use the brushy part

in storm the other end. (1887)
